Finishes that suit a rigid box

The wrap paper carries the print, so the finish sits on paper, not on board. These are the ones we are asked for most, all available as options.

Gold foil wreath on a green wrapped box

Foil blocking

Metallic foil pressed into the wrap for a logo or a fine line pattern. Gold, silver, copper and black are the usual choices.

Pressed floral frame on a white lift-off lid

Embossing and debossing

A raised or pressed logo you can feel through the paper. It works best on uncoated and textured wraps.

Black soft touch magnetic box

Soft touch lamination

A velvet-like film that turns dark wraps rich and matt. Fingerprints show less than on gloss.

Textured teal wrap on a jewellery box

Linen and textured wraps

Coloured papers with a woven or grained surface. Often left unprinted with a single foil logo on top.

Satin ribbon tie on a copper gift box

Ribbon pulls and ties

A satin ribbon fixed under the wrap to pull a drawer, lift a tray or tie the lid shut.

Foam insert with four cavities inside a book-style box

Inserts

Card, foam or satin-lined inserts cut to your product so nothing slides about in the post.

What makes a box rigid?

A rigid box is made from thick greyboard that is cut, joined at the corners and then wrapped in printed or coloured paper. Unlike a folding carton, it arrives made up and keeps its shape on the shelf, in the hand and in a drawer at home for years.

That is why people keep them. A watch box ends up holding cufflinks, a shirt box becomes a keepsake box, and a book-style launch box sits on a desk long after the product inside has gone. If you want to see how each construction differs before choosing, our guide to rigid box styles and how they open walks through all of them.

The one exception is the collapsible box. Its panels are joined by the wrap so it folds flat for delivery and clicks back into shape with magnets, which saves storage space when you order in larger numbers.

Who orders rigid boxes from us?

Our customers are UK businesses that want the box to say something before it is opened. Typical orders come from:

Some order 50 boxes for a launch, others reorder the same box every month. Both start with the same written quote and free proof.

  • Jewellers and watch sellers who need a case that protects and presents
  • Fashion and accessories labels packing shirts, ties, scarves, lingerie and shoes
  • Corporate gifting teams sending welcome kits and client gifts
  • PR agencies and brands planning press and influencer send-outs
  • Candle and fragrance houses that want a box worth keeping
  • Subscription brands with a seasonal or anniversary edition
  • Wedding and event planners ordering invitation and favour boxes

How is the price of a rigid box worked out?

Rigid boxes take more board, more wrap and more hand work than folding cartons, so they cost more per unit. We price each order in writing from the details below, so the figure you see is the figure you pay.

Send what you know through the rigid box quote form and we fill the gaps with sensible suggestions.

  1. Size: the outside dimensions decide how much board and wrap each box uses.
  2. Construction: a drawer box has two parts and a ribbon pull; a lift-off lid has two parts; a magnetic box has a flap and magnets.
  3. Wrap and print: plain coloured paper, a printed wrap, or a printed wrap with inside print.
  4. Finish: foil, embossing, soft touch or spot UV, each added as an option.
  5. Insert: none, card, foam or satin-lined.
  6. Quantity: larger runs spread the set-up across more boxes.

Questions about custom rigid boxes

Short answers to what UK buyers ask before their first order.

What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton?

A rigid box is thick greyboard wrapped in paper and arrives made up. A folding carton is thinner card that ships flat and is folded by you. Rigid boxes feel heavier and are usually kept.

Can you make a rigid box to my exact size?

Yes. Every box is made to the inside measurements you give us in millimetres, or to the item itself if you send its size.

Which rigid box construction is the most popular?

Magnetic closure boxes, followed by lift-off lid and sliding drawer boxes. The right one depends on the product and how you want it opened.

Do rigid boxes arrive flat?

No, they arrive made up and ready to fill. Collapsible rigid boxes are the exception and fold flat to save space.

Can I print inside the lid?

Yes. A message or pattern inside the lid is a common choice on magnetic and book-style boxes.

How long does an order take?

Production takes 4–6 business days after you approve the free proof, then delivery takes 2–3 business days.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

No. We deliver to UK addresses only, free and tracked.

Can you match my brand colour?

Yes. Send a reference and we match the wrap print to it on the proof. Coloured wrap papers can be chosen to sit close to it.

What artwork do you need?

A vector logo (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) is best. A clear PNG works for a first proof, and our designers can redraw simple marks.

Can I order a sample before the full run?

Tell us what you need to check and we quote a sample alongside the main order.

Do rigid boxes need an outer shipping box?

Yes, for the post. A rigid box is a presentation box, so it travels inside a plain shipper to arrive unmarked.

What happens if boxes arrive damaged?

Report misprints or damage within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund.
